Empowering recovery through essential life skills and practical workshops
Helping residents in early recovery discover that life happens at “the speed of life” is essential to moving forward into adulthood. The life development curriculum is a comprehensive workshop led by Chapter House staff and community partners. It centers on addressing life challenges and providing solutions to overcome them, all while practicing recovery principles. Workshop topics include financial peace and freedom, budgeting, resume building, education challenges, working sober, relationships, meetings and sponsorship, grocery shopping, fundamental life skills (cooking, cleaning, shopping), career assessment, organization, and time management.
The workshop employs various fun and engaging methods to convey the principles of each topic effectively. These methods may include field trips, cinema experiences, volunteer activities, Dave Ramsey’s financial curriculum, Socratic debate and discussion, and hands-on training. Through these interactive and practical approaches, residents gain valuable skills and insights, preparing them for a successful and independent life in recovery.
By incorporating diverse teaching techniques and real-world applications, the life development curriculum ensures that residents not only learn but also internalize the knowledge and skills necessary for their personal growth and long-term recovery success.
